REMOUNTING A CHAIN AFTER FLAT FIX

August 4, 2006

I have a Schwinn Suburban that I purchased last year from a bicycle shop in New York, which has since gone out of business. I recently moved to San Antonio.
I got a flat on my rear tire yesterday. My son removed the chain while I pulled off the rear wheel. The flat was fixed, but things began to happen when my son attempted to place the chain around the gear system. The chain is not going around the gear system properly. I realize that my description is rather vague, but everything got messed up.
My bicycle is my only means of transportation. Please, is there something that you are able to advise us to do? Thank you.

Carol N.

Carol:
Your description might not seem so vague if I tried to give you mine. Fortunately, I’ll spare you.
Unfortunately, I can't help you with on-line advice. I find these sorts of instructions work best with pictures—both of which you can get from my book, Urban Bikers’ Tricks & Tips.
By the way, I commend you for using a bike as your main way to get around. Because you rely so heavily on it, you might wanna learn more about fixing it. Check here for some good books on that.
