CHAIN KEEPS FALLING OFF—EVEN AFTER MR BIKE’S FIX

    My chain keeps falling off my bike, even when I’m just riding it. I tried using the advice on your Web page but it keeps doing the same thing.
    I loosen the nuts and place the rear axle more towards the back. Seems tight for a while, then loosens back up. Could the star in the bike be too small? Any advice?

    One thing about this Web-based advice: You never know if anyone actually tries it. Except in your case.
    The fact that the chain becomes loose after you get it tight sez to me that the wheel somehow slips. The simplest explanation: The threads on the axle nuts or the axle itself have gotten stripped, or the nuts lack the appropriate washers—so the nuts won’t stay tight.
